Brighton & Hove Albion vs Everton at the American Express Community Stadium on Monday in the English Premier League.
Brighton vs Everton Preview
Brighton & Hove Albion come into this game on the back of a 1-0 win over Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. A late penalty by Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was enough to seal the deal for Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion. Everton, on the other hand, drew 2-2 against Dean Smith’s Leicester City in the league. Goals from striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Nigeria international Alex Iwobi for Everton were canceled out by goals from Turkish center-back Caglar Soyuncu and veteran striker Jamie Vardy for Leicester City.
As for Everton, the fear of relegation will be seeping under the squad as of late. This could be seen as a must win before hosting Manchester City next week and a trip to Wolves before the final day. They currently occupy 19th place and will need points to get away from that, and fast. Brighton, meanwhile, are in the thick of a push for European qualification, sitting sixth and a point ahead of Aston Villa immediately behind them. The Seagulls have three games in hand on Tottenham, who are two points above them, and Liverpool, standing seven points ahead of them.
Teams
Everton were quite direct against Leicester in the week, which was effective, and I am sure they will try the same again, but they have got to get the ball off the Seagulls first. They are winless in their last 18 Premier League away games against sides starting the day in the top half of the table (D7, L11), though their last such victory was a 2-0 win at Brighton in August 2021.
Roberto De Zerbi is likely to feel his side in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Jason Steele in goal. Brighton will be without the services of Adam Lallana, Jeremy Sarmiento, Tariq Lamptey, Jakub Moder, and Joel Beltman because of injury problems. They will be without the services of Andros Townsend, Seamus Coleman, Ruben Vinagre and Dele Alli.
