Slovakia have been reasonably good at the Euros so far but besides their famous win over Belgium, they’ve only earned a point. On the other hand, England topped their group but with one win and two draws, they’ve failed to play at the level expected so far, and in truth, there is a lot of toxicity around the team now. However, expectations for a high-scoring match are low, as only one of the six group games involving these sides witnessed over 2.5 goals. Neither France, Belgium, Portugal, Germany or Spain will be blocking England’s potential path to the final, and victory on Sunday would set up a quarter-final clash with Switzerland, who eliminated reigning champions Italy on Saturday.

England have been without a few players at Euro 2024 due to injury, with the likes of Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell missing out on the tournament. Slovakia are unlikely to make many changes from the side that picked up a valuable point against Romania on Wednesday. Ondrej Duda, who netted Slovakia’s only goal of the game, is a slight injury doubt in midfield, but should be fit to feature. England don’t have any fresh injury concerns, although Southgate could make changes to his starting lineup given limp recent performances.

Slovakia looked on course of another victory after Ivan Schranz’s goal early in the first half, and it was a deserved opener for Slovakia. England grew into the game during the remainder of the first half but offered little threat going forward. England hadn’t even attempted a shot on target until Jude Bellingham rescued them with a 95th-minute overhead kick to take the game to extra-time. The tie went into extra-time and in the first minute Harry Kane headed England’s second, and the winning goal. Slovakia were the better team for most of the match but England are through to the next round.
