Arsenal vs Brighton Preview
Arsenal will be aiming to put extra pressure on league leaders Manchester City in Arsenal vs Brighton on Matchday 36. They’ve managed that in recent weeks by claiming two big wins against Chelsea and Newcastle United in England’s top flight, but the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion to the Emirates Stadium will pose yet another tough test for The Gunners.
Sunday’s game against Brighton is the biggest test for Arsenal in the business end of this season. Games against Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers will follow this one and Arsenal are fancied to win those two games. Brighton’s push for a top-seven finish took a huge hit on Monday, in their shock 5-1 home drubbing by Everton. For Brighton, their players do look jaded by a long season which has had them pushing towards the top of the league. Roberto De Zerbi’s intensity can take a toll by late in the season.
As for Brighton, they conceded five goals last time out against a struggling Everton, which bodes well for Arsenal’s in-form attack. The away side’s recent 6-0 victory over Wolves also highlights their own goalscoring prowess — one they will been keen to demonstrate in North London.
Team Updates
Solly March, who has seven goals and seven assists for Brighton this season, was forced off with a hamstring injury in the last defeat to Everton and will therefore miss this game. The Seagulls’ injured list also includes Adam Lallana (hamstring), Joel Veltman (hamstring), Jeremy Sarmiento (midfoot), Jakub Moder (ACL) and Tariq Lamptey (knee).
William Saliba has missed Arsenal’s last eight games with a back injury and Sunday’s game is likely to be another early one for the centre-back. In addition to the French defender, Mohamed Elneny and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also out for the Gunners with knee injuries.
