Newcastle vs Brighton Preview
Here are our Premier League predictions for a midweek clash, Newcastle vs Brighton that could have huge implications on the race for European football. Brighton ended Arsenal’s title dream last time out and now has a chance to put a dent in Newcastle’s Champions League push when the two sides meet at St James’ Park on Thursday. Albion have European ambitions of their own but a top-four spot still looks unlikely despite their win at the Emirates. They look well-placed to secure Europa League football.
Callum Wilson scoring twice from the spot didn’t prove to be enough for Newcastle United as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Leeds United last weekend. Leeds United had taken the lead through Luke Ayling as early as the seventh minute. Newcastle have lost just twice at home all season, conceding 13 in 17 games, while Brighton have the fourth best away record in the Premier League – winning eight times and scoring a whopping 33 goals.
After failing to win their last two games, the Magpies’ position at third in the Premier League table looks vulnerable. Manchester United, who are fourth, are tied on points with them. Liverpool, who have played a game more, are just a point behind them.
Team News
Sean Longstaff, Matt Ritchie, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth are injured, though the latter is the only player who may have had a chance of featuring from the off given his form earlier this season. The Magpies boss answered the age-old question of Wilson or Alexander Isak by starting both at Elland Road, as well as Miguel Almiron, but Jacob Murphy, Anthony Gordon and Allan Saint-Maximin will all put their names in the hat for first-whistle inclusion.
Brighton will again be without influential winger Solly March (hamstring) although Julio Enciso’s emergence has softened that particular injury blow. Adam Webster is struggling with a knock and that could see Levi Colwill again partner Lewis Dunk in the centre of defence.
