Rashford not in future plans?

Marcus Rashford has been dropped for United’s clash with Palace, in a surprising move from manager Ten Hag. Garnacho has been selected on the left wing, with Amad Diallo on the right, as United look to use the majority of their squad. Joshua Zirkzee leads the line, and Ten Hag has explained that he had no problems with dropping Rashford. Erik ten Hag has hit out at pundits for speculating about the reason for Marcus Rashford’s benching against Crystal Palace.

Erik Ten Hag on dropping Marcus Rashford

Ten Hag told reporters: “I heard already speculation from pundits. It’s crazy, as a person you are not OK when you bring such speculation when you don’t know. It was just rotation. I am very happy with Marcus in everything he is doing.”

It turned out to be one of the best performances of the season but United left the capital with just one point after a wasteful display in front of goal. United continue to lead the Premier League in big chances missed. After an hour, Rashford came off the bench to replace Zirkzee, but he failed to have an impact in the final 30 minutes of the clash. The most pleasing aspect from Ten Hag’s point of view, though, was how United suffocated Palace, winning the ball in midfield to spring attacks or forcing opposition defenders to pass back to Henderson, who then kicked long. Marcus Rashford dropped by Erik Ten Hag against crystal palace. A high defensive line allowed Joshua Zirkzee to press with confidence from centre-forward.

Erik ten Hag has admitted that Marcus Rashford will only continue to thrive for Manchester United if he ‘sets his life right’ off the pitch.

Ten Hag said: “I think he always knew. Every player knows, when your lifestyle is not right you can’t perform in the league we have to perform in.

“You don’t get the right levels if you don’t have a good and disciplined life away from Carrington.

“He needed some help, by backing him, for instance. But he has to do it himself, at the end of the day.

“He has to set his life right, his training attitude right, he has to set his match attitude right. When he sets his professionalism he will perform because he’s a class player.”
